Winter Demolition Derby in Bountiful

Image
Yesterday it rained, and then the rain turned to snow. It was nasty outside! This is a video of a street in Bountiful, Utah that always is a slippery slope in the winter. I lived in Centerville, which is right next to Bountiful, when I was just a wee tyke. I remember it always being very windy, and when it snowed, it really snowed! This video starts out slow, but by the end cars are sliding everywhere and hitting lots of stuff. And what is crazy is this kind of thing is pretty normal when it snows here. I'm so happy I don't commute to WSU anymore, we had a bunch of hills to go up and down in the snow.

The Road Home Photos

"The Road Home is a private non-profit social service agency that assists individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Salt Lake County and along the Wasatch Front. Our mission is to help people step out of homelessness and back into our community. Originally established in 1923 to assist stranded travelers, the Road Home has grown to address a spectrum of needs that people experiencing homelessness encounter as they work to restore their lives. In addition to operating the largest shelter in Utah, the Road Home has developed a comprehensive housing program that helps people move into housing as quickly as possible." One of my friends from college, the lovely Becca Dupaix, works for the the non-profit organization-The Road Home.  It is a wonderful program to have in our community.  It gives people a second chance when they need it most.  I was thrilled when she asked me to do some photos for their annual report.  If you would like to take a look click he

Marshall Soulful Jones performs "Touchscreen"

Sometimes I wish that technology would crash. Our cell phones wouldn't get reception, our computers wouldn't turn on, and all the little touch gizmos would die. Now, I know you must be thinking I'm a horrible person for thinking this, but I think we as a people are to' plugged in' to our online world. I saw a picture a few days ago that had a man hugging his computer that said "I love my computer, that's where all my friends live." Now, I very much appreciate all the conveniences that technology gives us, but I find myself wasting countless hours on facebook, twitter, pintrest, myspace (once upon a time) and games of all different sorts. I also know my husband spends a lot of his free time 'plugged in' mostly his games and twitter. Sometimes I just want to lose all this online social stuff and get back to the basics of hanging with people face to face. This guys in the video is great! I hope you have time to enjoy his wonderful poem, it

We had such a busy MLK Weekend!  I always get super excited for 3 day weekends, one because I get an extra day with my cute hubby, and 2 because I get to put that cute hubby to work on projects around the house!  HOORAY! Double win!  So, we are getting so close to being done with our basement, it seriously has been in the works for 2 1/2 years.  It is time to be done!  We are done with all the bedrooms and family room and wash room and pantry, we are just waiting to finish the bathroom, then we will carpet and be finished! This is why I am becoming a slave driver to get the tile laid in the bathroom.  Porter has been working hard on the shower, which is very tedious work as the tiles are small and fickle.  But it came time for the floor.  So this weekend was: 'tile weekend' Before  After!!!  To celebrate our victory with the tile (and I say 'our' because I sat down there on a Home Depot bucket and gave morale support, plus I buttered a few tiles for my man) we

Thrifty Thursday

Last week I did laundry.  Such a small word 'laundry,' but such a lot of baggage is attached to it.  I HATE it! I LOATHE it!  I absolutely detest it from the bottom of my soul!  I love clean clothes, but doing laundry is the one chore I have nightmares about.  It's not the actual sorting and washing, it's the putting away that I dread.  We live in an old home, built in the 1930's, and apparently back then they didn't believe in big closets.  Our closet is bursting at the seams.  We have two extra supports in it just to keep the rod from bending.  This makes putting clothes away very hard, and somewhat scary, I swear one day the closet is going to eat me! Porter hates doing laundry too.  So, last week we decided to 'purge' the closet.  I stood up and went through Porter's clothes, anything I hadn't seen him wear in the past year was put on trial.  He had to justify it's place in the closet and if he couldn't, it got sacked (quite literal

I'm on a podcast

I'm a guest caller on a podcast!  My husband is involved in a new podcast called ' Galatic Public Radio .'  They discuss the new Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO game.  They are spoofing NPR, and it's a lot of fun.  This is the Star Talk section (spoofing Car Talk).  Take a listen, it's only 9 minutes long, I'm on towards the end. http://j.mp/yaeOhR

A Glimpse of "My Fair Lady"

Image
Wow, it's been a month since my last post!  Eeep! The holidays are over, and I don't have a show going on right now so maybe I will get more blogging done.  I have a lot I want to put up here and show you.  I recently picked up my photo CD from the theatre and thought I would share some pictures from one of my more recent shows "My Fair Lady," with you.  This was my third time in this show, and I loved it!  Theatre is really special in that way.  I've done the same show 3 times, and they are were completely different productions.  Enjoy!
